For the Flintstones, textures were incorporated into scenes because this is a live action version of the movie. The use of simple line drawings enhances the time period which the movie takes place which is during the stone age. It gives the quirky, weird but funny aspects of the movie that are highlighted through the different scenes while also giving a prehistoric feel to the title sequence.
